Abstract

Tourism, as one of the largest sectors, was most severely hit by the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020. It was recorded in late 2019 in China and in three months has become a global pandemic, spreading to about 200 countries. The potential impact of the disease is huge not only medically but also from the economic point of view.

According to analysts, this pandemic negatively affected all sectors to various degrees. However, this damage can’t be compared with what the disease did to tourism and transportation sectors leading to either complete shut-down of their activities or staff redundancy and limiting expenses. The virus indeed had strong influence and made people rethink the whole industry. The field of organizational communication was no exception.

In this regard, there are vital skills and competences that the person employed in the tourism sector should possess to be successful. Areas, such as, successful orientation and communication in an intercultural environment which is highly prevalent in the modern business world, will have a devastating impact on the whole operation if not developed properly or being ovelooked.

This means that professonals and any other parties concerned should unite to provide useful strategies to tackle COVID-19, 2020 consequences and organizational communication specialists as well as service industry providers should support them in this undertaking by offering useful strategies and measures for overcoming challenges.
